Originally from engineering and theoretical physics, he did a Ph.D. about the neural dynamics of social interactions using hyperscanning—the simultaneous recording of multiple brains. During his postdoc at the Center for Complex System and Brain Science, he worked on multi-scale coordination dynamics and bio-inspired human-machine interactions. He then came back in France for working on autism at the Institut Pasteur and created the research platform SoNeTAA – Social Neuroscience for Therapeutic Approaches in Autism in the child and adolescent hospital Robert Debré (AP-HP). He has been involved in many projects at the interface between Science and Society (consulted expert for the UN and the French national plan #AIforHumanities). He also advocates internationally the use of openness in Science and Knowledge as a common good (co-founder of HackYourPhD), and the theoretical plurality in the study of consciousness (co-founder of the international and interdisciplinary research group ALIUS). He is also a scientific writer and journalist and is engaged with multiple projects at the crossroad of Art and Science. His contributions in Art range from virtual reality neurofeedback installation (Cahier des Limbes, 2009), international award winning short film (Phi, 2011), dada installation about neuro-enchantment (NeuroSwitch, 2015), rogue EEG lab to study the neurophenomenology of dreams (101 Nights, Ars Electronica Festival, 2018), or sending in real-time brainwaves into space with a radio telescope (Cogito project, 2018).

While “Creativity” may appear out of reach from the determinism of scientific explanations, recent progresses in psychology and neuroscience have improved our understanding of this unique cognitive ability. The scientific study of creativity has over the last decades uncovered biological mechanisms, demonstrated its social dimensions, and even recently developed mathematical models displaying a form of artificial creativity. Such scientific reduction of creativity to simple deterministic mechanisms may appear questionable. However, even without a complete explanatory model, applying the scientific method to the investigation of creativity can already bring a major theoretical tool: falsification.
